They sound okay for beginners, but I honestly wouldn't pay the money for black cymbals when they only sound decent. Tell you what: go ahead and sample some ZBTs, and if that's the sound you are looking for, then go ahead and buy yourself the black ones. Otherwise, stick with the more classic look, and focus on quality of SOUND instead of looks. Either way, Zildjian is almost ALWAYS the better way to go for cymbals. Their quality consistently outmatches the competition, in my opinion. Maybe a bit more expensive, but worth the investment. My 2 cents. They are simply ZBT (entry level) cymbals painted black.
