‘Religulous’ begins with the end. Bill Maher introduces his documentary standing on a hilltop in Megiddo, Israel where, according to the Bible, the final battle will take place; it is the very site of Armageddon. This sobering backdrop juxtaposed with Maher’s brand of wry biting humor sets the tone of the rest of the film which jumps from hilarious to critical and promises an irreverent, at times biased, take on religion in society.

Entitled Head On, artist Cai Guo-Qiang’s exhibit consists of a pack of wolves which trot up resolutely toward their fate. As the work progresses, the viewer witnesses the pack exploding out in force, slamming against a barrier and finally dying in a heap of twisted bodies.
The “dogged” animals are surprisingly realistic and were created from hay and metal wires overlaid with painted sheepskin and plastic.
The work can be taken as a metaphor for any number of political issues, and easy commentary can be made on either the indomitability of the martyr or the fruitlessness of the cause…

Icaro Doria, a Brazillian artist, created a “Meet the World” campaign which takes the flags of several nations and then uses their colors to illustrate sobering statistics. Just as a picture can be exponentially more valuable in conveying emotion than words, a representational chart or image can clearly surpass cold numbers in revealing the bigger picture:

Its been over 8 years since the debut of A Perfect Circle– a band which took the songwriting skills and subtle guitar work of Billy Howerdel and the mournful vocals of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and fused them into an artistic whole. Unfortunately, the supergroup has disbanded and all members have moved on to other projects…
Mer De Noms, APC’s first album (and surely one of the most beautiful albums of the decade) showcased remarkable artistry, from the hard-soft dynamic, 6/8 timing to the liberal use of atmospheric effects.

New Rock is a Spanish company which sells various fashion accessories, but is best known for its outrageous line of boots. Each pair bristles with superfluous metal and leather trappings– utilitarian art designed to rape the eyes …and not exactly something you’d want to wear to the office….
The brand is well known in the UK, where it has become the darling of the punk/goth scene and it is slowly becoming more well known in the US, popularized by such luminaries as Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx and metal band Cradle of Filth.
